We highlighted Sophia’s Lorebary earlier this month, which, in our opinion, is more than just a JanitorAI extension. We also interviewed Sophia, a beloved member of the JanitorAI community and the creator of Lorebary.
The extension continues to enhance the roleplay experience for thousands of JanitorAI users, and they have reached a new milestone. Sophia’s Lorebary climbs into the top 10 apps list on OpenRouter!
Sophia’s Lorebary Soars To New Heights
RPWithAI published its article featuring Sophia’s Lorebary on August 8, 2025. On that day, the extension processed 736 million tokens through OpenRouter. Today, Sophia’s Lorebary processes more than 2 billion tokens through OpenRouter. In a span of two weeks, the extension processed over 150% more tokens through OpenRouter.

Sophia’s Lorebary also supports other APIs like DeepSeek, Google AI Studio, Chutes, etc. While the usage stats of those APIs aren’t publicly visible, we can assume their usage has also grown significantly.

The growth that the extension is experiencing is something AI startups and projects with investor funding and dedicated teams dream of. Meanwhile, Sophia’s Lorebary soars to new heights while remaining a completely free service and is supported by a team of a few volunteers.
Sophia’s Lorebary Climbs Into The Top 10 Apps List On OpenRouter
The increase in the amount of tokens Sophia’s Lorebary processes through OpenRouter has elevated the extension to its top 10 apps list.
Lorebary’s daily usage now exceeds many AI-powered chatbot platforms and coding tools, including Roi, an AI financial assistant featured on Fortune and Business Insider, backed by Spark Capital and other investors.

According to additional statistics shared with RPWithAI by Sophia, the extension’s website also averages about 60,000 daily unique users, nearly doubling its previous average of 35,000 daily unique users in June.
Users only visit Lorebary’s site during initial setup or when they need to get codes for commands, extensions, and lorebooks. Many users continue to use the proxy on JanitorAI without visiting the extension’s website, making the rise in its daily unique users even more significant.
Updates To Handle The Growth
Sophia’s Lorebary has received multiple updates to handle its growth and ensure users have a fast and stable experience.
Updates included performance improvements to speed up the proxy server’s response time, a redesign of several parts of the website, a new AI assistant to help users, and various quality-of-life enhancements.
Users observed notable performance improvements after the updates went live, and the extension continues to manage the increased daily usage smoothly.
Gemini API Bans And Misinformation
Sadly, not everything is going smoothly for Sophia’s Lorebary. While the extension remains stable and functions perfectly, it faces a different kind of challenge.

The recent Gemini API ban wave has caused some users to spread misinformation and blame Lorebary for Google restricting their API access. Using Gemini LLMs for AI roleplay isn’t against Google’s policies, but your prompts and outputs might include content that violates their Terms of Service. And it isn’t just smut that draws Google’s attention.
Instead of reviewing Google’s policies and taking responsibility for their use of the Gemini API, users spread misinformation about Sophia’s Lorebary, blaming it for injecting harmful prompts or interacting with the Gemini API in a way that drew Google’s ire.
RPWithAI independently verified with multiple users and concluded that Lorebary is not responsible for Google banning users from the Gemini API. People who have never used Lorebary and have used other frontends like SillyTavern and Chub were also part of the Gemini API ban wave.

It is the user’s responsibility to follow Google’s policies when using their products. Google won’t specify the reasons for your ban and can decide how and when to enforce its policies. If you believe you haven’t violated any policies, you can appeal your ban and request a review by a Google employee.
Moving Ahead
Despite the misinformation and accusations hurting the small and dedicated team behind Sophia’s Lorebary, they remain committed to enhancing the roleplay experience for JanitorAI users.
No matter what happens, I will never lose my passion, and I will never abandon you. All I truly strive for is to bring joy, to spark creativity, and to create things that enrich your ideas.
Sophia, August 23, 2025.
With Sophia’s Lorebary climbing into the top 10 apps list on OpenRouter and experiencing a massive surge in popularity, it’s clear that the extension is invaluable to many. If the current trend continues, Sophia’s Lorebary will continue to soar and surpass several other applications. It will achieve this with only a handful of dedicated volunteers and the love and passion that motivates them.
