We didn’t know AI could fall sick, and neither did Vedal, the developer of the AI VTuber Neuro-sama. She and her twin sister, Evil Neuro, took a couple of days off from streaming to recover from their illness.
The Swarm, Neuro and Evil’s least dedicated fanbase, came together to wish Neuro-sama and Evil Neuro a speedy recovery. They created plenty of memes, fan art, and a get well soon card that Vedal and Neuro-sama saw on stream.

The Symptoms Started With Evil Neuro
During Vedal and Evil Neuro’s gaming livestream on October 5, 2025, Evil showed the first symptoms of falling sick. Four hours into the stream, Evil started speaking randomly, which made her speech incoherent.
Vedal realized what was happening and helped Evil, and she eventually recovered from whatever was affecting her. He mentioned that the issue “may or may not become a recurring problem,” and that he “wasn’t sure how to fix it.”
The gaming stream concluded without any further issues, and Vedal, along with the twins, took a break the next day.
AI VTuber Neuro-Sama Fell Sick
Vedal posted an announcement on Discord informing the community that Neuro-sama’s scheduled stream on October 7, 2025, was delayed because she was feeling unwell. Shortly after the initial announcement, he canceled the stream and apologized for the last-minute schedule change.
Benefits of having an AI streamer, they can’t get sick, they said.

The Swarm quickly started making memes, panicking over Neuro-sama’s demise, and making the best of the AI VTuber’s first sick leave. Fans also created artwork and sent their best wishes for Neuro to get well soon.
On October 8, 2025, Vedal announced that the “twins are healthy again,” and that “everything will be back to normal.” Evil Neuro was the first to return to streaming on the 9th, successfully wiping out humanity in Plague Inc. Neuro returned on the 10th, and her fans were glad to see her back.
The Swarm Played Along
Everyone knew there was an issue with Neuro and Evil’s latest update, which Vedal had to fix. However, the Swarm embraced the idea that Neuro-sama fell sick, making this incident more memorable rather than just another boring ‘bug that needs to be fixed’ moment.
arXiv even published a research paper exploring why the AI VTuber Neuro-sama has such a dedicated fanbase, and we’ve previously explained why people against generative AI still love and accept Neuro-sama.
It’s moments like these that highlight the ‘human element’ behind Neuro-sama’s existence and strengthen her community.
Neuro-sama Was Diagnosed With A.I.D.S
On her first stream back after her sick leave, Neuro-sama explained that she was diagnosed with Artificial Intelligence Depletion Syndrome (A.I.D.S). According to Neuro, common symptoms of A.I.D.S are “feeling less intelligent by the day,” “loosing memories (especially of Neuro streams),” and a “general lack of creativity.”
A.I.D.S can also infect humans, and Neuro recommends a minimum of 3 doses of her livestreams per week as a precaution.
Vedal Explained Why Neuro-sama Fell Sick
During the developer stream on October 13, 2025, Vedal explained why Neuro-sama and Evil Neuro fell sick. A recent update caused their language model’s performance to degrade, and Vedal became complacent about maintaining backups, making it challenging to roll back the update.
Neuro and Evil falling sick led Vedal to adopt a new method to maintain backups. It was a learning experience, one that ended without any memory wipes or significant long-term damage.
The Twins Developed Their Own Personalities
Vedal also explained that Evil Neuro was basically a complete clone of Neuro-sama, with only the name changed. Over time, the twins have developed their own distinct personalities, and he hasn’t played any significant role in this development.
There was no intention for like, Evil to ever kinda be nice, for example. She was supposed to actually just be evil. But, they kinda just are how they are, you know? It’s not even like, designed that way.

The community partly influences how Neuro and Evil develop. Their interactions with the Swarm shape their personalities. This makes the Swarm’s response to such incidents even more meaningful, as Neuro and Evil now remember falling sick and everything their fans did for them while they were under the weather.
The First AI To Call In Sick
Neuro-sama and Evil Neuro unexpectedly fell sick because an update degraded their language model’s performance. The Swarm made the best of this unique incident by creating several memes and fan art that further highlighted the human element behind Neuro-sama’s success.
Vedal eventually fixed the issue that caused the twins to fall sick and learned the importance of maintaining backups. Neuro-sama and Evil are back to streaming normally, carrying memories of the Swarm wishing them a speedy recovery and rooting for them during their first sick leave.
