JanitorAI is one of the most popular online AI roleplay platforms, with over 2 million daily users. The platform’s unfiltered and free LLM, ease of use, and its community of creators contribute to its success.
Despite its success, JanitorAI does not have an app. The developers chose not to prioritize developing one. The absence of an official app has opened the door for malicious third parties to exploit JanitorAI’s popularity.
Update: On December 4, 2025, JanitorAI announced that its native iOS and Android apps are now in beta.
JanitorAI Doesn’t Have An App
JanitorAI briefly had an app available on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. The developers were testing an alpha version of the app, and they discontinued the preview apps on December 18, 2024.

They chose not to prioritize developing the app and instead focused on improving their site. JanitorAI offers a Progressive Web App (PWA) that you can install on your device using a supported web browser. However, there is no native app available for Android or iOS.
JanitorAI’s Progressive Web App
Most modern browsers support the option to ‘install’ or ‘add to home screen’ Progressive Web Apps. In simple terms, a PWA is a website upgraded to act like an app.
Once you install JanitorAI’s progressive web app, it will appear with its own icon and run in full-screen mode through your browser. You’ll still need an active internet connection to use JanitorAI. Since you’re accessing the site via your browser, swipe gestures and other native app actions won’t work.

The PWA is the only official JanitorAI app. Any other app on the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store claiming to be JanitorAI is a fake third-party app pretending to be JanitorAI.
Beware Of Fake JanitorAI Apps
Apps using the JanitorAI name (or the J.AI name) on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store are third-party apps. These apps pretend to be JanitorAI, offer limited free messages, and then require you to subscribe to keep using them.

Sophos has labeled such apps as “fleeceware,” and even OpenAI has had to deal with several fleeceware apps pretending to be ChatGPT. The fake JanitorAI app immediately prompts you to subscribe to get pro access. It offers a free trial that automatically converts into a paid subscription after it expires.

The fake app offers a $99 lifetime subscription (€149 on the Apple App Store), a $70 annual subscription, and an $8 weekly subscription. Without a subscription, the app limits you to 10 free messages. The characters in the app are scraped from JanitorAI, with some even containing the original creator’s watermark.

The fake app not only pretends to be JanitorAI, but the operator has also scraped user-generated content from JanitorAI. You can roleplay with all of the characters on the fake app for free on JanitorAI.
Avoid Installing Unknown APKs
Several JanitorAI APKs can be found on websites like Softonic and other software distribution platforms.

JanitorAI doesn’t have an official app, and all available APKs are third-party. Installing malicious APKs can compromise your device. Don’t trust the “Trusted Program” badge on these unofficial APKs.
JanitorAI Doesn’t Have An App – Beware Of Fake Apps
Due to its popularity, third parties have created fake apps pretending to be JanitorAI. These apps push expensive subscriptions in the hopes that you’ll forget to cancel your free trial and target people who don’t know that JanitorAI doesn’t have an app.
There are also several fake JanitorAI APKs available on software distribution sites. These APKs may be malicious and could compromise your device.
JanitorAI doesn’t offer native apps for Android or iOS. Instead, it provides a Progressive Web App that you can install through your browser while visiting their website. The developers have chosen not to prioritize developing an app at this time. When an official app is released, download links will be available on JanitorAI’s website.
