Shep published a blog post explaining why JanitorAI feels weird right now and how that’s going to change. He addressed some common feedback about JanitorAI and announced that updates to the JanitorAI UI and overall user experience are on the way.
JanitorAI’s Current Pain Points
JanitorAI has over 1.5 million characters, with thousands more added daily. Users have requested a personalized recommendation feature to easily find characters they want to roleplay with, instead of scrolling through countless unrelated character cards.

Users have also provided feedback that JanitorAI’s search function requires too many clicks to filter and find the right character cards. Creators have also struggled with navigating multiple pages to create and edit characters instead of having a single, unified interface.
Managing your chats and characters on the platform is also a tedious task because there are no bulk action tools.
JanitorAI UI and Quality of Life Updates Coming Soon
Shep addressed JanitorAI’s current pain points in a blog post published on August 22, 2025.
heres the thing every feature should either help you create, help you find stuff, or get out of your way. thats it. right now you waste clicks everywhere. scrolling through pages of bots you dont care about. five clicks to edit something. search that barely works. its disrespectful to your time.

He also revealed that UI and quality of life updates will be gradually rolled out. However, pushing changes and rebuilding parts of the site while millions use it daily is a challenging task, especially when even minor updates lead to hundreds of users complaining on Reddit and Discord.

JanitorAI’s developers are working on UI improvements and quality of life updates to help users create and find content more easily on the platform. They are also working on enhancing the chat experience by adding features like rewinding and checkpoints.

The team has already pushed out the first update, allowing users to disable custom CSS styling on creator pages, a feature many requested for accessibility reasons.
JanitorAI UI and quality of life updates are coming soon, and Shep has asked users to be patient during the rebuilding process.
the mess youre seeing? its not permanent. its us tearing down the old stuff to build something that actually respects your time. stick with us. the best version of janitor is coming.
